Roger soldiered on five different continents and ran a small family business in Midhurst before writing full time about nature and nature restoration, with particular emphasis on birds. It was during childhood holidays on the Isle of Mull and a five month tour of duty on South Georgia that he developed his interest in nature into a passion. As a founder member of two charities, Help for Heroes and Curlew Action, he well understands the need to galvanise engagement and action within the general public.
He sees the nature crisis in the UK as of equal importance to climate change, and campaigns through his writing and speaking to encourage others to do the same through sustainable and positive change in their daily habits. The fact that nature is so resilient once we have removed our feet from its throat underpins his optimism.
