The Dairy

An enchanting, rustic dwelling, once a working cow barn, The Dairy sits amongst working stables in the heart of Knepp’s rewilding project, overlooking our beautiful wild swimming pond.

Suitable for a single person or couple, The Dairy’s spacious downstairs accommodates a large comfortable sofa and armchair around a woodburning stove, with a plentiful stock of sustainable, home-sourced wood.

The herringbone brick floor is made from reclaimed brick using traditional materials laid by our in-house artisan stone mason. All other furnishings are reclaimed, antique or have their origins on the estate.

The open plan kitchen has an electric Range cooker, fridge/freezer and washing machine, with a Sheila maid for eco-drying. The bathroom has a large walk-in rain head shower and generous handmade heated copper towel rail.

Upstairs you’ll find a luxurious double bed with natural-fibre mattress, pure wool topper, organic cotton bed linen, and down duvet and pillows (hypoallergenic available on request).

You’ll find complimentary organic tea, coffee, milk and sugar for your arrival so you can make yourself a cuppa, put your feet up and settle in.

The Dairy does not have a TV but there is good WiFi so you can stream away for snug movie nights in, or simply curl up with a good book.

We invite you to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature during your stay through our extensive network of public footpaths through the rewilding project. A map of circular walking routes is provided, along with information on local shops, pubs, restaurants, and recommended activities for rainy days, including yoga and massage at the yoga garden, a stone’s throw away.

‘One week at Knepp estate staying in the Dairy, walking the fields, seeing nearly 20 storks flying high above us, a lot of fallow deer watching us from a safe distance.  A big male rutting red deer impressive to see and hear. We came from the Netherlands to see and we are impressed, as we can see the possibility of the return of nature in a ‘used to be’ environment.’                         Anna  from The Netherlands

‘The concept of rewilding intrigued us and we weren’t disappointed with what we found. To see storks in the first couple of days was a delight, and various deer, fox, longhorn cattle buzzards and goldfinch charms all contributed to the belief that things are on the right track and in good hands.’                           Albert  from Devon

‘Truly memorable experience. Loved The Dairy, the land and all its wonderful creatures.   Amazing week with perfect weather. The reception staff helpful and accommodating.  A magical place.’                                                                 Michael  from San Francisco

‘What a brilliant place! Kingfisher spotted within 10 minutes.  Agriculture without the factory approach – eventually maybe…  Highly recommend the wildlife safari – wonderful insight into a different way.’                                       George from Derbyshire
