The Stables

The Stables is a stunning two-bedroom cabin based at Church Farm North on the edge of Knepp rewilding project. Suitable for two couples, it has a generous, fully-equipped kitchen and a lovely, cosy sitting room – perfect for long or short stays.

Church Farm North is very close to the Burrell family’s hearts. Charlie’s grandparents decamped here during WW2 when the Canadian army were stationed at Knepp Castle. The Stables, where they kept their horses and children’s ponies, were their pride and joy. This lovely conversion makes beautiful use of the space, with high, timbered ceilings, wooden floors and crittal windows providing plenty of light.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside and connected to the network of footpaths traversing Knepp Wildland, the Stables is within easy reach of Knepp Wilding Kitchen & Shop for supplies and delicious seasonal cooking.

As with all our cabins, we’ve done our best to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible. Our beds have luxury natural-fibre mattresses, four down pillows, Egyptian cotton bed linen and down duvets, topped with beautiful quilts. We provide soft, organic bath towels. Hypoallergenic bedding is available on request. The king-sized master bedroom and smaller, double bedroom both have en-suite bathrooms with generous walk-in showers. Complimentary organic hand soap, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are provided.

All furniture is antique, reclaimed or made on the Estate. The kitchen contains all the equipment you need to cook up a hearty English breakfast or delicious dinner, with SchaubLorenz cooker, undercounter Bosch fridge and separate freezer, and Hisense dishwasher.

The Sitting Room, featuring a log-burning stove, deep sofa and comfortable armchairs, generous writing desk and card table for four, is in a separate building, once a grain store, just next door. Elevated off the ground in the traditional way, it’s a lovely spot to curl up with a book from the Knepp selection in the bookshelves or settle down to a game of cards or jigsaw puzzle over a glass of wine. There is no TV but there is good WiFi so you can stream away for cosy movie nights.

There is an on-site gym available for your use complete with weights, rowing machine and yoga mats. Please note the gym is available by appointment only.

A map of circular walking routes is provided, along with information on local shopping, pubs, restaurants and recommended activities for rainy days. Knepp Wildland safaris and Rewilded Walled Garden tours run between Easter and October – booking essential. Wild swimming pond, yoga yurt and sauna at Knepp Wildland campsite are open all year round.

You’ll find complimentary organic tea, coffee, milk and sugar for your arrival so you can make yourself a cuppa, put your feet up and settle in.
