Information

This workshop is aimed specifically at landowners with around 150 acres or less, or individuals attempting to connect smaller areas of land, who are interested in exploring rewilding.

The morning session will begin with presentations from Tony Whitbread, ecologist and president of the Sussex Wildlife Trust, and Matt Phelps, Knepp’s lead ecologist, detailing the history and concept of the Knepp Wilding project and how this could be applied in smaller areas. You will be introduced to the concepts of natural capital, ecosystem services and how green finance can support rewilding initiatives.

This will be followed by a two-hour walking safari, a chance to encounter Knepp’s herds of free-roaming animals, to discuss how they are managed and explore the habitats they are creating as well as the biodiversity they foster.

Back at the Cow Barn you will be treated to a delicious lunch featuring Knepp produce.

The afternoon session will feature a practical case study, demonstrating how the herbivore-driven natural processes you’ve just seen on safari can be developed at a smaller scale. There will be plenty of time for questions at the end.

You’ll need a moderate level of fitness and be able to cope with walking on uneven ground.

9.30am – 3.30pm
£175 per person

Some of the species we are likely to encounter are shy or can be frightened by loud noises or sudden movements. Our campsite with open-air fire-pits, wood-burning stoves and an on-site pond is unsuitable for small children.

For this reason, our safaris, garden visits, holiday cottages and campsite are suitable only for children of 12 and over.
