Ecology of the Rewilded Garden Tour
Take a deep dive into the ecosystem of our Rewilded Walled Garden with one of Knepp’s ecologists and experience the dynamic world of garden wildlife.
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener interested in increasing life in your garden or simply curious about the natural world, our ecology tour shows how gardens and smaller green spaces can become a vital wildlife haven, helping to reverse biodiversity loss in Britain.
In the three years following the Walled Garden’s re-design, biodiversity has increased 35%. It is now home to 434 insect species, many of them nationally rare.
Learn about habitat creation, the complex lifecycles of insects, predator-prey dynamics, the extensive world of pollinators beyond bees, and how to attract more birds into your garden by providing natural sources of food and protection for them all year round.

Information
After a brief video presentation over tea and coffee in the old Apple Store introducing the concepts behind the garden’s design, Knepp’s ecologist will take you on a tour of the Walled Garden and adjoining orchard and meadow in search of insects, birds, reptiles and amphibians, and small mammals.
Our ecologists are hugely knowledgeable but may not know every plant in the garden – we have over 1,000 species from all over the world – so if it’s specifically plant IDs you’re after, consider taking one of our workshops.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes (but no more than 30 mins) before the workshop is due to start.
PLEASE NOTE: This garden tour takes place in the grounds of Knepp Castle – a different location to Knepp Wildland safaris. Please do not go to the campsite/safari car park, instead follow the directions to the Walled Garden on your pre-visit email.
10.30am-12.30pm (April-October)
