Information

Join us on a tour of Knepp’s two vegetable gardens and take a deep dive into how vegetables can be grown in a way that balances quality and productivity with the need to restore wildlife and combat climate change.

Your safari starts in the Kitchen Garden within Knepp Castle’s Rewilded Walled Garden. Over tea and coffee in the Apple Store, we’ll explain how we’re applying a wilder approach to growing fruit, herbs and vegetables.

Deputy Head Gardener Suzi Turner will lead you around the Kitchen Garden – redesigned by landscape gardener Tom-Stuart-Smith – to show how we’re applying rewilding principles to food production, diversifying our edible and useful plants, encouraging natural predators and a vast range of pollinators, providing important wildlife habitat, and improving our soil conditions to grow sustainably and help store carbon.

You’ll then head to our organic, regenerative three-acre Market Garden which supplies produce for the Wilding Kitchen & Shop. Our incredible growers will explain how they manage this space throughout the seasons to grow and harvest beautiful vegetables chosen for flavour, interest and productivity; and how they build soil, provide habitat, and integrate flowers and cover crops into the system.

And finally, a foodie celebration of all things vegetable! Enjoy a delicious, seasonal three-course lunch in the private dining room of the Wilding Kitchen, just a few footsteps away from the Market Garden. (Soft drinks but not alcohol included).

There may be a little walking involved around both garden sites, so do bring appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. This safari requires a 6-minute drive from the Rewilded Walled Garden to get to the Market Garden and Wilding Kitchen. We don’t provide transport but if you’re stuck, please let us know ahead of the safari.

Please arrive from 9.30am onwards for a prompt start at 10am. NB this starts at the Walled Garden at Knepp Castle – not at the campsite or anywhere else!

The lunch will be vegetarian. Please let us know at the point of booking if you have any allergies, or if you’re vegan, and we will do our best to cater for you.
