Botanical Painting
Join award-winning botanical artist Nessie Ramm in this one-day botanical painting workshop at the Apple Shed at our Rewilded Walled Garden.
Nessie will share the acrylic painting techniques which she used to create the wild mural at Wadhurst Park in East Sussex.
During the morning you will experiment with slow-drying acrylics, working on board using transparent medium and different ways of mark-making to capture botanical details. On a walk around the walled garden you will select one or two plants to be the subject of your own painting in the afternoon. We will observe how wildlife interacts with the plants in the garden and how plants grow together, and include aspects of these ecological relationships in the paintings.
You do not need to consider yourself a botanical artist to take part. This is not a course in scientific illustration; rather, it is about observing directly from nature and making a painting which reflects your own interests.
You can expect a friendly, creative atmosphere with a focus on wild ecology and a chance to chat along the way. The workshop is limited to 8 places.
