Growing Through the Seasons
Market Garden Winter Course
10am-3.30pm Friday 5 December 2025
Winter Growing, Composting, Soil Health
As one season closes, another begins. This workshop is all about setting your garden up for success – whether you’re extending your harvests into winter or laying the groundwork for a bountiful spring.
Our focus: crop planning, protected winter growing, composting, and the living world beneath your feet.
What We’ll Cover
In-depth tour of Knepp’s highly productive, regenerative market garden: See the plentiful harvests of autumn produce, the ways we’re encouraging birds and critters into the garden and how we are thinking ahead for winter growing.
Get ahead with planning for next season: Understand how to map out your garden for bountiful harvests in the seasons ahead, while building long-term soil vitality.
Hands-on soil health and composting workshop: Get stuck into a practical deep-dive on how to build and manage a Johnson-Su bioreactor — an innovative, low-maintenance system that creates rich, microbial compost to supercharge your soil naturally using the latest insights from the soil food web.
Grow through the cold: We’ll also touch on protected winter growing techniques to help you keep harvesting even in the colder months.
Delicious local food
Enjoy hot drinks and homemade brownies in the morning, then tuck into a hearty, warming lunch from Wilding Kitchen, made with local and seasonal produce.
There may be a little walking involved around both garden sites, so do bring appropriate footwear and dress for the weather.
