Autumn Growing, Cover Crops and Harvest
As the growing season winds down, it’s time to turn our attention to harvests, soil health, and biodiversity. Join us for a day of practical learning, seasonal inspiration, and delicious local food, all set in the heart of the Knepp Estate.
Our focus: cover cropping and green manures.
What We’ll Cover
In-depth tour of Knepp’s highly productive, regenerative market garden: See the plentiful harvests of autumn produce, the ways we’re encouraging birds and critters into the garden and how we are thinking ahead for winter growing.
Hands-on cover cropping: Discover how to protect and enrich your soil over autumn and winter using a wide variety of cover crops. We’ll explore what to sow, when to sow it, and how these green manures can boost biodiversity and long-term fertility.
Visit the stunning rewilded kitchen garden: Get a first-hand look at how this biodiverse garden integrates fruit and veg in a thriving polyculture system – perfect for those wanting to grow more at home while working with nature.
Delicious local food
Enjoy fresh brownies with your morning coffee or tea, and graze on a seasonal lunchtime platter prepared by Wilding Kitchen – showcasing the incredible overlap of summer and autumn produce from the market garden.
There may be a little walking involved around both garden sites, so do bring appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. This safari requires a 6-minute drive from the Market Garden to get to the Rewilded Walled Garden. We don’t provide transport but if you’re stuck, please let us know ahead of the safari.
