Jiva Masheder

Mindfulness Safari Guide

Jiva’s twin passions, for mindfulness and nature, come together as she leads mindfulness in nature safaris at Knepp.  She has been teaching mindfulness in many different contexts since 2009 and has an MSc in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, the standard 8-week mindfulness programme for stress and depression. She is a supervisor for the Mindfulness Network and assists with teacher training for Sussex Mindfulness Centre.

She has taught mindfulness on allotment sites funded by Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation, The Garden House in Brighton, and Chelsea Physic Garden.

Jiva has volunteered doing practical conservation with Trees for Life in Scotland and more recently, a Brighton Council-run habitat creation project and the RSPB’s annual Swift Survey.

I am thrilled to be leading mindfulness safaris at Knepp and helping people connect with their love of the natural world by spending time deeply experiencing Knepp and all it has to offer. I have a life-long love affair with the natural world (except spiders, or only at a distance). Birds are a particular passion and in the 20 years of cultivating an organic allotment, I have fallen more and more in love with plants and the diversity of the habitat I’ve created. I particularly cherish bringing mindful awareness practice to the natural world.

Our 12+ Policy

Knepp Wildland Safaris, our gardens and campsite are all about the quiet and patient observation of nature.

Some of the species we are likely to encounter are shy or can be frightened by loud noises or sudden movements. Our campsite with open-air fire-pits, wood-burning stoves and an on-site pond is unsuitable for small children.

For this reason, our safaris, garden visits, holiday cottages and campsite are suitable only for children of 12 and over.
