Isabella Tree

AUTHOR AND CO-OWNER, KNEPP ESTATE

Married to Charlie Burrell, Isabella is an award-winning journalist and author of five books.

Her bestselling book, “Wilding” describes the story of the rewilding project at Knepp. It won the 2018 Richard Jefferies Award for Nature Writing and was voted in the top ten science books for 2018 by The Smithsonian.

Her children’s books, “When We Went Wild”, (2021) and “When The Storks Came Home” (2022), are also inspired by rewilding. They are amongst the first entirely sustainable picture books ever produced.

“The Book of Wilding”, a practical guide to rewilding big and small, co-authored with Charlie, is published by Bloomsbury in 2023.

“We’ve been astonished not just by the wildlife successes of rewilding Knepp but of the incredibly positive responses to it, from Government, conservation organizations, and the general public. Knepp is, above all, a story of hope – and now, more than ever, we need hope. Knepp has begun to inspire rewilding projects in the UK and all over the world. In terms of nature, it really feels like we’re beginning to turn the Titanic around.”

Our 12+ Policy

Knepp Wildland Safaris and campsite are all about the quiet and patient observation of nature.

Some of the species we are likely to encounter are shy or can be frightened by loud noises or sudden movements. Our campsite with open-air fire-pits, wood-burning stoves and an on-site pond is unsuitable for small children.

For this reason, our safaris, holiday cottages and campsite are suitable only for children of 12 and over.
