Knepp Market Garden - Assistant Grower

Job Type: Part-time, seasonal (Apr-Oct)

Hours: 24 hours per week, plus some weekend and holiday cover.

About the market garden: Knepp Market Garden is a 3-acre, organic vegetable production growing for the on-site restaurant, shop, and a local wholesaler. The market garden is surrounded by the renowned 3,500 acre rewilding project that has been running for over 20 years. We reflect the principles of the rewilding project with regenerative growing practices, including use of cover cropping, living mulches and promoting biodiversity wherever we can.

Job description: We’re looking for an assistant grower to join our small, friendly team for the 2026 season. You’ll work on all aspects of vegetable production from propagation through to harvest and packing, including transplanting, weeding, irrigation and more. This will be a varied position with lots of opportunities to learn on the job. The successful candidate will need to be able to work Mondays, but other days of the week and the number of days hours are spread across the week are open to negotiation.

Person specification:

Essential

  • At least one season’s experience of organic/regenerative vegetable production at a commercial or community food growing project.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weathers – this is a highly physical role!
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently, with strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills, initiative and willingness to learn.

Desirable

  • Experience speaking to groups and leading tours.
  • Experience using BCS or tractor.

Some of the species we are likely to encounter are shy or can be frightened by loud noises or sudden movements. Our campsite with open-air fire-pits, wood-burning stoves and an on-site pond is unsuitable for small children.

For this reason, our safaris, garden visits, holiday cottages and campsite are suitable only for children of 12 and over.
