Information
The Knepp Rewilding Project is a pioneering experiment in habitat creation, the largest of its kind in lowland Europe. Our free-roaming grazing animals are really the managers of our rewilding project. Their disturbance creates a mosaic of dynamic, shifting habitats that is rocket-fuel for wildlife. Over the course of little over a decade, since the project began, we have seen a remarkable come-back of species, many of them red data species or nationally scarce.
Join one of our expert ecologists and explore the rewilding project in an open-sided all-terrain vehicle.
You’re very likely to see our free-roaming herds of large herbivores and you’ll have a chance to connect with nature in a way that is scarcely possible in other regions of the UK. Depending on the time of year, you might see the rare purple emperor butterfly, hear the intoxicating song of the nightingale or the cooing of turtle doves. Above you, white storks circle in the skies or swoop onto their nests – the first storks to breed in the UK for 600 years.
Mid-way through the safari you’ll break for a refreshing drink and locally made brownies.
This safari runs between 09 May and 19 September.
This is a vehicle-based safari but there will be some walking on uneven ground.
