Ten Birds That Changed the World

Author Talk and supper with Stephen Moss
6pm Thursday 16 July 2026

For the whole of human history, we have shared our world with birds. We’ve hunted and domesticated them for food, fuel and feathers; placed them at the heart of our rituals, religions and legends; poisoned, persecuted and often demonised them; and celebrated them in our music, art and poetry. Even today, despite a growing – and worrying – disconnection between humanity and the rest of nature, birds continue to play an integral role in our lives

Lifelong naturalist and bestselling author STEPHEN MOSS reveals the ten birds that – in his view – have had the greatest impact on human history.

With a welcome glass of bubbly, and introduced by Isabella Tree, Stephen’s illustrated talk will be followed by audience Q&A, book signing and three-course dinner at the Michelin-rated Wilding Kitchen.

Our 12+ Policy

Knepp Wildland Safaris, our gardens and campsite are all about the quiet and patient observation of nature.

Some of the species we are likely to encounter are shy or can be frightened by loud noises or sudden movements. Our campsite with open-air fire-pits, wood-burning stoves and an on-site pond is unsuitable for small children.

For this reason, our safaris, garden visits, holiday cottages and campsite are suitable only for children of 12 and over.
