There are 23 million gardens in the UK, and each one – regardless of size – can play a crucial role in restoring wildlife and helping combat climate change.
The rewilded walled garden at Knepp is a unique horticultural experiment inspired by what we’ve learnt from rewilding in the wider landscape. The aim is to maximise biodiversity, while at the same time being as sustainable as possible. It’s about challenging old ways of thinking and working with, rather than against, nature.
The project has been masterminded by our garden advisory board: Tom Stuart-Smith (world-renowned landscape designer); Mick Crawley (emeritus professor of plant ecology at Imperial College, London); James Hitchmough, (professor of horticultural ecology at the University of Sheffield); and Jekka McVicar, (author and organic gardening expert.
Join one of our garden team for a short presentation over tea, coffee and brownies before heading out to see the walled garden transformation. Learn about the vision and practicalities of the project, and how it could relate to your space – be it substantial garden, backyard or window box.
Unfortunately the garden is not yet wheelchair accessible – but we’re working on it!
PLEASE NOTE: The garden safaris take place in a different place to all other safaris. Do not go to the campsite/safari car park; please follow the directions to the walled garden on your pre-visit email.
